Sculpture

Where it all started

My love for sculpture is truly where every other element of my love for art began. From an early age, I would play with clay and use found objects to create. If I don’t know how to use a material, that is my next goal. I love to learn new techniques and allow myself to go into an “art trance” where I stop thinking and just let myself go. I use reference images and my experience to feel my way to the end.

Memorial for my cat

I sculpted her body out of air dry clay. I used her paw print and built it into the back of the sculpture, once it dried, I painted it with acrylic paint.

I used her ashes and mixed them with resin to create some flowers as well as the ground/ dirt at the bottom right. I also put them in a small glass bottle so they stayed dry and you could see them move if the memorial was tilted at all.

I incorporated her favorite blanket, and put one of her baby teeth onto a floating flower. This was my first attempt of pouring resin on a live flower. before I poured the resin, I set up some small lights that would function once the piece was completed.

I used paper mache and scrap boxes to sculpt the shell and head. I chose to use colors found within the newspaper to make up the colors on his face.
